The Bauhaus Paper Studio: Design Principles in Practice
Inspired by original Bauhaus principles, the Bauhaus Paper Studio offered a hands-on exploration of these foundational ideas through paper as the primary material. Across three weeks, students investigated its material properties, including papermaking, texture, fragility, colour, and surface manipulation. They then expanded into advanced experimental processes such as monoprinting, mark-making, frottage, collage, and cyanotypes, alongside explorations of the relationship between physical and digital practices through scanning, animation, and projection mapping. In the final stage, students developed three-dimensional approaches through large-scale installations, embossing, and structural folding techniques, transforming paper into spatial forms. The course resulted in a self-bound Bauhaus sketchbook documenting each student’s creative journey, combining both physical and digital experiments into a curated final exhibition.
